Public Design Festival 2010 - second edition Milan, April 13th to 18th
For over fourteen years, esterni has been working to highlight public spaces as the place where cities develop and grow. It has been developing the concept of public design - an effective instrument to meet and understand the new needs of modern social life.
Milan, Settimana del Salone Internazionale del Mobile (International Furniture Fair) A city in which public spaces are conceived as places of private interest, as containers for cars and advertising images, and in which they are used as a media showcase that has to be exploited as long as there is something to show. A festival that - on the contrary - wants to re-affirm the central role and the importance of public spaces as places belonging to everyone, open and useful to all citizens, and shared by everyone.
It could be supporting or light structures, art installations, services, urban furniture, means of transport, but also integrated systems in hospitality and tourism, emergency actions or long-term urban planning. All projects, services, and installations of Public Design Festival will not be just on display, but they will actively involve the Salone audience and all the citizens of Milan.
Why Public Design Festival?
Public space is the place where the city is created, it is everyone's place. Public spaces as an opportunity for personal and cultural growth, as a playground where the game has no rules, as the first field of debate, in which curiosity can result in knowledge and everyone's actions can change the world. Public design as an instrument to re-design them, offering objects, services, installations, hospitality systems, and means of transport to live this space in the best way possible.
